45 Years Is a Miracle

In 1980, at the inception of NET, a vision was given to a few university students. They felt convicted about it. The burden was specific: students from Nyanza were arriving on campus and falling away after their first year. Some even said the university could not get salvation. The young team resolved to pray for their land, go home, and tell people that salvation was even there on campus — and the evangelistic team began.

The first mission was in Kisumu town: house-to-house witnessing and open-air meetings. The only thing they had was transport, but God provided. The most daring was an island mission — his own father accepted the team into his home, and in that mission, he got saved. They crossed the lake at night and reached the island at midnight, by faith. The island, he says, has never been the same.

Converts followed that are still told as testimony: a witch doctor who came to Christ and whose salvation became the talk of the village, and a man known only as a drunkard who got saved at an evening meeting and was completely transformed. The prayer cells formed in those days have grown into today’s cell groups, and the team grew from the university setup to workers’ units, schools, and across the counties of Nyanza.

Of the milestone he says simply: to sustain a team for 45 years is not something you can take for granted — others have come and disappeared after ten or twenty. He calls the leadership centre in Kisumu a milestone: a place for retreats, training local pastors for follow-up, and prayer — something Kisumu did not have. A brand-new baby, he calls it, and an invitation to all of NET to come and see what God has done.
