WHO WE ARE

A movement connected by one mission.

NET Ministries Trust is a Christian student evangelism movement rooted in Kenya. We exist to evangelize, prepare, and equip believers to live the word of truth and be committed to a lifestyle that enriches the church and communities.

At the heart of NET is a conviction that transformed communities begin with transformed lives. When a student encounters the gospel, everything changes — their friendships, their leadership, their purpose. That transformation does not stop with one person. It ripples outward into campuses, families, churches, and communities.

What connects the movement is not a building, a brand, or a programme. It is a shared commitment to evangelism, discipleship, and the belief that every student deserves to hear the gospel and be discipled in community. Across Kenya, NET brings together students, leaders, churches and organisations under one mission.

We are not here to replace the Church. We are here to serve it. Every student we reach, every leader we equip, every community we touch — it all flows back to the local church and the Great Commission.

NET is global in vision, local in presence, and unwavering in mission. This is who we are.

OUR STORY

A story still being written.

NET Ministries Trust is a dedicated Christian movement established in the 1980s with a core mission to evangelize, equip, and empower individuals to spread the word of Christ. Over the past four decades, the ministry has grown internationally, focusing on holistic development and community fellowship. A major milestone for the organization is the development of the Leadership Development Center, a dedicated space designed for reflection, leadership training, and spiritual retreats. As the ministry continues to evolve, it remains committed to its non-political and interdenominational identity, prioritizing spiritual growth, organizational excellence, and the expansion of its membership base to further its impactful outreach efforts.

OUR FOUNDING

From a campus outreach to a nationwide movement.

What began as a student initiative at the University of Nairobi has grown into a trusted Christian movement serving communities across Kenya and beyond.

1980

The Beginning

NET was established as the Nyanza Evangelistic Team (NET) by a group of students at The University of Nairobi, Main Campus, with a heart to reach out to the Nyanza Region with the gospel of Jesus Christ. These students felt God’s call to bring the message of hope beyond the university campus and into communities across western Kenya.

1983

First Leadership

Dr. John Ochieng Ogada and Ochieng’ Okinyo Oloo (The Late) served as the first chairpersons from 1983 to 1989, establishing the foundation of the movement. Their leadership set the tone for a ministry built on prayer, evangelism, and a deep commitment to reaching students with the gospel.

1990s

Growth & Expansion

Under successive chairpersons — Bsp. Dr. John Mudany, Dr. Jackton Opiyo, Prof. Zachary Abiero Gariy, and James Ouma Onyango — NET expanded its reach and deepened its impact across campuses and communities. New branches were established, and the ministry’s reputation for faithful evangelism grew throughout the region.

2000s

Trust Registration

In response to growth and increasing demands of ministry, NET was registered as a Trust under the name NET Ministries Trust, with the slogan “Responding To God’s Call.” Leadership continued through Mr. Maurice Nyakiti, Mr. Tom Warega, and Mr. Johnson Awuor, each bringing stability and vision to the movement.

2010s

Continued Mission

Under Mr. Matthias Ohana and Pst. Kenyanito Dudi, NET continued to strengthen its presence across Kenya, equipping students and leaders for evangelism and discipleship. The ministry matured in its structures, deepened its partnerships with local churches, and reached new campuses across the country.

2023 – Present

Today & Beyond

Under the current chairmanship of Mr. Fred Wambia, NET Ministries Trust continues to grow — not for the sake of numbers, but because the need is real. Students are searching for meaning, community, and truth. NET exists to meet them where they are, with the gospel that changes lives.

LEADERSHIP STRUCTURE

How NET Ministries Trust is organised.

NET Ministries Trust is led through six organs, from the Board of Trustees, who hold the society’s assets in trust, to the executive committees serving cell groups and student units. The National Coordinating Council (NCC) is the highest policy and administrative organ, the National Executive Committee (NEC) implements policy, and Regional Executive Committees (REC) coordinate activity across regions.

Operational structure chart: Global Office, Deputy Global (Finance and Development Projects), KLDC, and Deputy Global (Ministry Operations)

The organs of the society.

  1. Board of Trustees — holds the society’s land, buildings and investments in trust.
  2. National Coordinating Council (NCC) — the highest policy and administrative organ.
  3. National Executive Committee (NEC) — implements the policy of the society.
  4. Regional Executive Committee (REC) — coordinates activity across regions.
  5. Cell Group Executive Committee — leads cell groups, the smallest functional units of the society.
  6. Students Executive Committee — serves the society’s student units.

National Coordinating Council (NCC)

The NCC is the highest policy formulation and administrative organ of the society, and its final decision-making body. Where a decision is contrary to doctrines well set out in the Bible, the Annual General Meeting can reverse it.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out the society’s objectives and the resolutions of the Annual General Meeting
  • Appoint volunteer workers and staff as needed
  • Recommend and organise training for members and staff
  • Give guidance and encouragement through regular consultation and fellowship
  • Oversee staff welfare — housing, remuneration, allowances, leave and more

Regional Executive Committee (REC)

The REC coordinates the society’s activities in the regions, under NCC oversight and accountable to it.

Composition

  • Chairperson, Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer, elected at the Regional AGM
  • The Chairperson and Secretary of every unit in the region
  • The REC Chair and Secretary sit on the NCC

Duties and meetings

  • Pass NCC information and decisions through to the units
  • Organise joint activities, events and fellowships of units within the region
  • Meet at least four times a year, no more than three months apart

Cell groups and campus units

A cell group is the smallest functional unit of the society; cell groups combine to form units. Each unit is led by officials elected by its members — Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and other positions as needed — making it the lowest level of leadership, where members meet for fellowship and missions. The Chairperson and Secretary of each unit sit on the Regional Executive Committee.

Role of units

  • Organise and undertake outreach missions
  • Mobilise members for activities at unit, regional and national level
  • Run resource mobilisation to meet the budget
  • Build members’ capacity for gospel outreach and for their roles in family and society
  • Be the centre of fellowship — sharing testimonies and receiving spiritual nourishment through the word
  • Explore ways of dealing with members’ welfare
  • Resolve disputes among members

NET Ministries Trust is a Christian student evangelism movement rooted in Kenya. We exist to evangelize, prepare, and equip believers to live the word of truth and be committed to a lifestyle that enriches the church and communities. NET connects students, leaders, churches and organisations across Kenya under one shared mission — seeing lives transformed by the gospel.

Who is NET for?

NET is for students, church leaders, volunteers, and anyone passionate about sharing the gospel and seeing communities transformed through the power of Jesus Christ. How can a student get involved?

Students can get involved by connecting with NET through their campus fellowship, attending a NET event, or visiting our Get Involved page. You can join a local branch, participate in evangelism and discipleship programmes, or take on a leadership role on your campus. There is a place for every student who wants to be part of the movement.

How can a church partner with NET?

Churches can partner with NET by collaborating on student outreach, supporting discipleship programmes, or connecting student leaders with NET’s network.
