I Got My Wife from This Ministry

Johnson Awuor

Former Global Chairperson

Johnson Awuor joined NET in 1997 as a first-year student at the University of Nairobi. The ministry gave him an opportunity to serve in outreach, and over the years he responded to the call — going for missions, discipling people, mentoring the young, and evangelising in his village and where he lives today. Nearly thirty years later, he is still a proud member.

He appreciates the founders who gave his generation a platform, and the people he met as first-years who grew into great ministers of the Word, dependable leaders, and mentors of others. In his own family, he says: ‘I got my wife from this ministry’ — and that gave them the opportunity to serve together as a family.

As Global Chairperson, his season was one of expansion: units were inaugurated and engaged across universities and campuses. Today, he says, it is no longer a few people who started the ministry, but a great multitude who can influence villages, families, and churches. His friend Prof. Agara once told him: look at NET in terms of finances and you will be disappointed — but look at the impact in families, churches, schools, and government, and you will see how much has been done.

Looking forward, he wants the leadership development centre to train pastors and church leaders for the region — one thing, he says, the Nyanza region lacks — and asks where NET stands as people move online and digital. Alumni already serve as school principals, CU patrons, and heads of department. If you gave me two things, he says, I would still go for NET by any means.
